What is a DAO and why does it matter to AEC?

Introduction Blockchain technology has revolutionized many industries worldwide, and the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry is no exception. A significant innovation in this context is the DAO, which is a "Decentralized Autonomous Organization". A DAO is a blockchain-based organizational structure that operates decentralised, enabling transparent and collaborative decision-making and facilitating participatory governance. In this article, we'll explore what exactly a DAO is and why it's relevant and important to the AEC industry. What is a DAO? A DAO is an autonomous, organization-like entity that operates through smart contracts on a blockchain network. Unlike a traditional company, there is no hierarchical structure of power, nor the need for intermediaries such as managers or executives. Instead, decision-making is carried out collectively and transparently, through voting based on ownership of tokens or units of the DAO's native c...

What's New in Revit 2017

Upgrade Information for Revit 2017

Some new and changed features of Revit 2017 result in certain behaviors for upgraded models. Review this information before upgrading your models. (Note: For more upgraded features in Revit 2017 please look the link below after the article.)

Text Measurement

The method for measuring text size is changed so that the Text Size parameter more accurately represents the height of a capital letter (similar to AutoCAD). Previously, Revit measured the size of text from the font baseline to the ascender line. Since most characters do not extend to the ascender line, physically measuring the font may not have produced expected results.

The size of text now reports using the cap height, which measures from the baseline to the top of a capital letter M as seen in the image below. This change affects all text in Revit. After upgrading a model, please review all views and sheets to verify the changes to your text instances.

Note:
Be sure that the proper fonts are installed when opening an upgraded model. Substituted fonts further will change text due to the font sizing changes.

  • The text measurement changes and text editor enhancements introduce some new restrictions on text. The editor can support font sizes from 1 point to 1638 points. For Arial, these font sizes translate to approximately 0.1" to 16.3" or 0.3 mm to 413.6 mm.
  • The text note also has a maximum width of 84" or 2135 mm.
